You will have two sets of teeth:

  • Primary (Baby) Teeth
    • Appear between 6-8 months of age
    • All 20 are in place by age 3
  • Secondary (Permanent) Teeth
    • Begin growing around 6 years old
    • All are present by age 12-14
    • 12-year-old molars erupt
    • Wisdom teeth break through around age 17
    • There are 32 total
    • Many people remove wisdom teeth due to crowding

Sharp teeth: canines
Side teeth: pre-molars/bicuspids
Back teeth: molars

Since your permanent teeth are the teeth you will have for the rest of your life, it is vital that they are well taken care of for longevity. Be sure to practice good hygiene by brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
