Dr. Thomas Clifton and his staff are proud to provide high quality family, cosmetic, endodontic and periodontic dentistry, but we understand that even the gentlest treatments can be stressful, so we also offer sedation dentistry. When receiving dental care, patients have a choice between nitrous oxide or oral sedation to make the experience anxiety-free. Whether you’re visiting us for a root canal, dental crown or any of our other services, we can make your appointment comfortable and stress free.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a mild sedative delivered through a small mask that fits over your nose in order to relax you during dental procedures. Its calming effects are not intended to put you to sleep, so you will be conscious and able to communicate with Dr. Clifton, but you will also be able to relax as the procedure takes place. Once the mask is removed, the doctor will ask you to breathe normally for a few minutes and the effects will subside almost immediately. We will discuss before and after sedation instructions with you.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is another option available to patients for an anxiety free dental procedure. Dr. Clifton will prescribe a sedative medication for you to take before the procedure that will significantly reduce any anxiety, fear or discomfort. You will still be able to communicate with our team during the medication’s effects, but you will be able to enjoy the benefits of relaxation.
